Unable to bear her separation from Him, she laments to a bee

This tirumozhi also is sung by “parakAla nAyaki”. She was utterly dejected for not having got samslESa with BagavAn. When she was happy the flowers on her hair would be fresh and full of honey which the bees would see. Now that she is sad, the flowers become dry devoid of honey yet the bees who had earlier tasted honey come to seek the flowers. parakAla nAyaki says “Oh! Bee! Why do you come here? The flowers are dried without honey. Why don’t you make it fresh? go to tirukkaNNapuram, bring the scent and honey from the tuzhasi mAla worn on His crown. Then you can get as much as honey as you want”. “keNDai oN kaNNum tuyilum enniram paNDu pOl okkum mikka seer toNDar iTTa poonduLavin vAsamE vaNDu koNDu vandu oodumAhilE” (11-1-9) periyatirumozhi. Even if there is no samslESha with emberumAn at least i should get some objects associated with Him - is the idea expressed here.

tirumANikkavAsahar, a Saiva Bakta has also written “tirukkOdumbi” one of the padiha.

Oh! tumbee! Why do you come to me who have no life? do you think i am as before fresh and fine? no. Look! How i am dry like a stick without any sap! the flowers do not stay on my hair (as my bangles do not stay in my hands). Even if they are there they are completely dry. You would not get any honey if you sit on it.

Bee – What should i do to you to bring life?

parakAla nAyaki – listen! i shall tell you. Do you know the Lord of nitya sooris?

Bee – Yes. But i can’t go near Him.

parakAla nAyaki – Don’t be afraid He is called tirumArban because periya pirATTi who is full of compassion and does puruShakAra lives there in His tirumArbu. So you can easily go and approach Him

Bee – Will i come back if i go to viNNavar perumAn?

parakAla nAyaki – you need not go there. He is here (tirukkaNNapuram) for all the people of leelAviBooti to worship Him. He is eulogized by all the jnAnis as “Ah! This emberumAn, the Lord of nitya sooris, has come down for our sake only leaving pArkaDal and paramapada”.

Bee – Where is He?

parakAla nAyaki–In tirukkaNNapuram. Go there; smell the tuzhasi worn by Him on the crown and blow the scent over my dry flower. You will get honey if you do so.

“deiva taNNanduzhAi tArAyinum tazhaiyAyinum taN kombadAyinum keezh vErAyinum ninra maNNayinum koNDu veesuminE” (tiruviruttam). emberumAn tuzhasi’s sambandha is enough. It need not be tiruttuzhAi; it can be any thing connect with tiruttuzhAi (even the soil where it grew will do).

Oh! tumbi! He is the causeless cause and the supreme Lord as declared by all the vEdas. He is wearing a sacred thread across His shoulders. His tiruvaDi is sought, worshiped and sung by all the Baktas and BAgavatas. He is in tirukkaNNapuram. Go and seek the tiruttuzhAi on His tiruvaBiShEka (crown). Sit on it which is fragrant with pollen grains. Then come and blow it on my flowers.

“kOlAl nirai mEittu AyanAi kuDandai kiDanda kuDa mADi neelAr taNanduzhAi koNDu en neri men kuzhal mEl sooTTeerE" – ANDAL. She wanted the women to bring the tuzhAi from His hair and place it on her head in order to make her all right. Here AzhwAr says i don’t want even the tuzhasi; just the scent is enough to rejuvenate me.

The kOl tumbi left her hair when it found no honey in it. It went in search of other flowers. parakAla nAyaki addresses the bee– Oh! kOl tumbi! Why do you foolishly roam among those flowers in order to get honey, like dogs enter all the houses with open doors. You will find only meager honey in them. Go and seek the tiruttuzhAi of emberumAn at tirukkaNNapuram who is worship by all the dEvAs. There you shall get the sweet honey; smell it and blow on my dry flowers. Certainly you will get ever-fresh honey.

Oh! kOl tumbi! He who resides in tirukkaNNapuram is none other than He who took the great matsya avatAra spreading Himself the whole expanse of the sea; who took koormAvatAra to support the weight of the mandara mountain when the pArkaDal was churned to get nectar; who took narasimha avatAra, and extraordinary man-lion form to kill hiraNya when he tortured prahlAda. He is dark as a cloud who wears tiruttuzhAi mAla on His head. Go and settle on the flowers, bring the scent here and blow it on the dry flower to get honey for you.

Oh! tumbee! you simply waste your time searching for the honey in all those earthly flowers. Even though they are beautiful with variegated colors they will not have honey as sweet and aromatic as the one in the tiruttuzhAi mAla of emberumAn. Therefore go and seek Him in tirukkaNNapuram who took the great tortoise form in order to help the dEvas to get nectar. He is worshipped by all the people of all the worlds. There He stands wearing a tuzhasi mAla. Go and sit there and bring the scent here. Then you shall find as much honey as you want in the flowers on my hair.

Oh! tumbee! He is paranjOdi who has periyapirATTi in His tirumArbu; who bears chakrAyudha in His right hand; who took mahAvarAha avatAra to lift Boomi pirATTi from the aNDa Bitti; who is dark like kAyAm poo. On His crown He wears fragrant tuzhAi mAla. Go and get the scent from there and come and blow it on the flowers on my hair.

Oh! tumbee! He who resides in tirukkaNNapuram is the one - who took vAmana avatAra (to help indra He begged three feet of land from mahAbali; who is going to take kalki avatAra (to subjugate adharma and establish dharma in kaliyuga); who killed the asura called madhu (when he stole the vEdas from brahma); who is the loving consort of periya pirATTi; who wears tuzhasi mAla on His tirumArbu to indicate His rakShakatva; who took rAma avatAra as the son of daSaratha cakravarti; who is the father of manmatha; go and settle on His tuzhasi mAla, bring the scent and blow on my flowers.

Oh! tumbee! you fly here and there searching for honey in the neelOtPala flowers grown in the muddy fields and in other flowers growing around them. Why should you do so foolishly? There is emberumAn like yama to the foes residing in tirukkaNNapuram wearing tuzhasi mAla on His crown. Seeking Him, snuff the tuzhasi flowers, come and sit on my flowers to make it fresh with honey.

Oh! tumbee! Go and seek that mAla come here to sing and blow the smell on the dry flowers on my head. Then you will get honey to drink.

Oh! tumbee! You should make us sing on emberumAn of tirukkaNNapuram as tirumangai AzhwAr, the chief of tiruvAli, has sung on Him.

In almost all the tenth pASuras AzhwAr gives Pala Sruti like “poovaLarum karpaham sEr ponnulahil mannavarAi puhazh takkOrE” “neer mali vaiyattu neeDu nirpArhaLE” “nAmaruvi ivai pADa vinaiyAya naNNAvE”. Since the singing of this tirumozhi itself is the great Pala AzhwAr has not given any Pala to this tirumozhi.

toNDarOm – In place of toNDarhaL he has given the word toNDarOm to suggest that if he gets the Ananda all dAsas will get the same. kOl tumbee refers to the BAgavatas.
