About tirukkaNNapuram AzhwAr sang five tirumozhis as tAyAr pASuras and nAyaki pASuras. Now the five tirumozhis he sings as AzhwAr himself.

1. toNDeer uyyum vahai kaNDEn tuLangA arakkar tuLanga mun

AzhwAr starts the pASuras with the great joy shouting “toNDeer! uyyum vahai kaNDEn!” at last he found out a way to redemption. After lamenting in the previous tirumozhi “vali seivadi ozhiyAdE” “ seivadonru ariyEnE” “anjEl enbAr illaiyE” “ennAviyai enakena peralAmE” “pAviyEn Aviyai aDuhinradE” etc., Here he finds all the sufferings and mental agonies disappear like dew at sunrise. Hence he wants to share his thoughts with kainkarya paras. What is that “uyyum vahai”? It is to worship Him who was angry against rAkShasas, bent His bow, lifted His shoulders to kill them, who has periyapirATTi and Boomi pirATTi besides Him in tirukkaNNapuram.

toNDeer – “ozhivil kAlamellAm uDanAi manni vazhuvilA aDimai seyya vENDum nAm” such kainkarya paras whose only aim is to serve Him.

Let us worship Him who resides in tirukkaNNapuram. He is the one who came to the battle riding on garuDa, discharged terrible arrows from the powerful bow and cut off the head of mighty mAvali and took him to the pAtALa lOka along with the other rAkShasas of lankApuri.

i worship kaNNapurattu emberumAn who once attacked the beautiful city of lanka (which was protected by forts and seas) and killed rAvaNa, the king of the city, in the terrible war that ensued between the two armies. In the battle rAma revealed His greatness and prowess to the astonishment of the foes. Even before this war (which was waged for the sake of seeta pirATTi) He killed the rAkShasi called tATaka at the behest of sage viSwAmitra. He protected the yAga performed with His skill in archery though He was just out of the gurukula ( a novice in the art of warfare).

kalvi silaiyAl kAttAn– periyavAchchAn piLLai comments–Sree rAma protected the yAgas not with the bow got from paraSurAma when He was coming with newly wedded wife seeta, but with the small bow that He used in gurukula.

Sree rAma requested the sea god to give way for Him to build a bridge across him to cross over to lanka. The sea god did not oblige but kept quiet. Sree rAma enraged at his disobedience took His terrible bow in order to make him surrender. At that sea god gave permission to build a bridge across him. The vAnara sEna helped in building by throwing huge trees and boulders into the sea splashing the water to reach the sky. Sree rAma resides in tirukkaNNapuram for all the people to worship Him.

The emberumAn who resides in tirukkaNNapuram is none other than He who took koormAvatAra, narasimha avatAra and hamsa avatAra etc., who receives the offerings made in the yAgas by brAhmaNas, who killed rAvaNa the king of lanka (a city surrounded by turbulent sea and strong forts) by chopping off his numerous heads and hands, who has manmatha as His son.

kAmar payandAn–pradyumna is the son of kriShNa. He is the incarnation of manmatha. Hence it is said kriShNa is the father of manmatha.

Oh! Mind! Do not worry about your pApas for which you have to suffer. There is our sarvESwara who killed the king of lanka out of anger for the offences that he committed towards seetApirATTi. He saved bANAsura as He would not break His promise. Also there is His loving consort nappinnaipirATTi to do puruShakAra to us. Therefore there is no need for you to worry as you are devoted to Him and have not committed any sin against His Baktas. Do not doubt His capacity to save you from the terrible sins. Since He killed the huge mad kuvaLayApeeDa there is no doubt about His rakShakatva. It is enough if you worship Him in tirukkaNNapuram.

emberumAn did anugraha to the elephant gajEndra who went to a lotus pond full of flowers to pluck one for the Lord. He was caught by a crocodile and there ensued a terrible fight between them. At last gajEndra cried for His help. The Lord protected His Bakta by killing the enemy. He went to lanka, defeated the king rAvaNa and got the kingdom to viBeeShaNa, younger brother of rAvaNa. Before the war He killed mAreecha (who came as a golden deer) with an arrow. He resides in tirukkaNNapuram.

Oh! Mind! Don’t worry because there is emberumAn who is in tirukkaNNapuram right in front of us. He is a great rakShaka. He is the one who felled the deep rooted twin maruda trees, killed the rAkShasi pootaNa who came to feed Him with poisoned milk, killed the asurAs came disguised as horse and the donkey, subdued the might of seven bulls, pulled out the huge tusk of the mad kuvaLayApeeDa, killed the huge mighty mallas and kicked with the tiny feet the great SakaTAsura and killed him. He is sarvajna who can destroy all our sins.

kaNNapirAn made all the efforts of indra to cause trouble to the AyarpADi people fall to pieces by holding the gOvardhana mountain like an umbrella under which He asked all the folks of AyarpADi and cattle to stay safely. He defeated the powerful bulls for the sake of nappinnai pirATTi. He is the Lord of nitya sooris who is called “mA mAya” because of His wonderful feats. He acted as the messenger to the pANDavas and went to duryOdana to discuss whether to make war or peace. He is the one who broke the SakaTAsura to pieces and killed both vatsAsura and kapittAsura by throwing one on the other.

tirumangai AzhwAr, the lord of tirumangai, has sung these ten pASuras of emberumAn residing at tirukkaNNapuram where He is seen with periyapirATTi. Those who read these pASuras sung by the AzhwAr who is called “aruL mAri” will enjoy the kingship both here and swarga and finally reach paramapada to be honored by the nitya sooris.
